The Third Congress of Russian Scholars of Religion organized by Association for Russian Centers for the Religious Studies will take place on October 7-9, 2016.

The theme of the Congress is “Academic Research and Conceptualization of Religion in 21 century: Traditions and New Challenges”.

The sessions of the Congress will be held in the Vladimir State University.

The forthcoming all-Russian congress with international participation called for further scientific communication, which began in 2012 and 2014 in the framework of the First and Second Congress of Russian researchers of religion in St. Petersburg, organized by the Association of Russian religious centers.

During the Third Congress of the Russian Scholars of Religion the following problem fields will be discussed:
1.The Russian conceptual apparatus of Religious Studies. Features of the global, local and glocal in the Russian Religious Studies. The religious and secular comprehension of religion.
2. Philosophy of Religion “out” and / or “inside” of religion.
3. An analysis of the historical and cultural dimension of religion as continuity and change.
4. The problems of measuring of religiosity: criteria, types and results of sociological research.
5. Anthropological studies of “popular religiosity” and religion in popular culture. Construction of religious imagery in art and media.
6. Philosophical understanding of psychological studies of religious experience.
7. Textual research and problems of linguistic analysis of religious texts.
8. Contemporary issues of freedom of conscience and state-religious relations: theoretical issues and legal status of religious associations.
9. The conceptual aspects of the studying of ethno — religious identity, conflicts and ways to resolve them in a dialogue of cultures.
10.Knowledge of religion or knowledge about religion? Theoretical and methodological problems of religious education and religious studies

Each of the areas of discussion involves the leading Russian and invited foreign experts known for their publications in these areas.

Schmidt, William Vladimirovich — Doctor of Philosophy, Professor, Deputy Head of Department of national and federative relations, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of Russian Federation (Moscow);
Elbakyan Ekaterina Sergeevna — Doctor of Philosophy, professor of the Academy of labor and social relations, director of the Center for religious researches «ReligioPolis» (Moscow).

In the application for the event (sections, round tables, etc.) the format and title, full name, position, academic degree and the title of the organizer, the number of expected participants must be specified, and introduce the theme of declamations. To this application, you shall attach abstracts no more than 1600-2000 characters.
In the personal application you should specify: surname, first name, middle name, title, academic degree, place of work, position, city and email address.

Duration of presentations — up to 15 minutes (discussion — up to 5 minutes)
The steering committee reserves the right for selection of applications.
Students – master’s students and graduate students of junior courses are invited to participate with poster reports.

Accommodation and transportation costs — from sending side resources.

Key dates:
Deadline for applications for planning of sections and round tables is
May 15, 2016.
The answer of acceptance of the application will be sent by June 15, 2016.
Speeches (reports) up to 40 000 characters with spaces are expected before
July 15, 2016.

Participants and guests of the Congress will be offered a cultural program with a visit to the monuments from the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Vladimir and Suzdal.
