GENESIS OF THEORETICAL RELIGIOUS STUDIES IN THE 19th
AND THE FIRST HALF OF THE 20th CENTURY

Study of the history and methodology of religious studies has become an important aspect of this discipline in the second half of the 20th century. This tendency is closely related to understanding of the importance of study of the premises of research in religious studies and their place amongst other academic disciplines. In spite of this fact, there still are many gaps in topics related to the history of religious studies, and ideas of many scholars, as well as the roots of their ideas are still out of sight of contemporary researchers.
The purpose of this conference is to discuss the latest discoveries related to the history of religious studies. Presentations during the conference will be in Russian and English.
There is no participation fee. Participation in the conference, as well as publication of the paper in the proceedings of the conference is free.
Conference committee will not be able to pay for participants’ transfer or accommodation. We can meet you at the railway station in Vladimir to help with a transfer from the railway station to the hotel.
The Scope of the Conference
- The genesis of the Psychology of Religion in the Europe and in the USA.
- The genesis of Anthropological approach to the study of religion.
- The concepts “religious experience” and “religious feeling” in religious studies.
- The history of German freethought.
- The history of freethought in English-speaking countries.
- Methods and approaches in the academic study of esotericism.
- The study of Eastern religions in Western religious studies.

You can participate in the conference in person or distantly.
If you want to participate in person, Juli 2, 2015 is the deadline for conference applications for those participants who need assistance with Russian visa. You are supposed to send an abstract (250 words) until this time. You must specify:
a) your full name,
b) the title of your paper,
c) place of work, degree and position,
d) home and work addresses (including zip code),
e) phone (fax),
f) e-mail address.
If you do not need any assistance and you get Russian visa yourself, you can send an abstract and required information until September 2, 2015.
If you want to participate distantly, please, send all required information until September 2, 2015.
September 2, 2015 is also the deadline for full text (1500 words) submissions for all participants. Text received before this date will be published in the conference proceedings. If you submit your text after due date, you still can participate in the conference, but your full text will not be published in the proceedings. In this case, your abstract can be published instead of the paper.
In your papers, please, use Times New Roman, 14 pt. For references, please, use the APA style with in-text citations.
